The Vurnary meat processing plant in Russia’s Chuvash Republic has put into operation the country’s first robotic warehouse for finished products, developed entirely with Russian-made equipment and software, the company said in a statement.

The robots — each informally named Vasily — operate around the clock, cutting order processing times to as little as four hours and reducing the number of workers per shift from 12 to eight. Employees freed from heavy physical labor have been reassigned to other production units.

“Robots carry out tasks based on predefined algorithms, ensuring consistency of operations and optimal use of warehouse space,” said Vitaly Mikhailov, the plant’s executive director.

The automated assistants have increased warehouse capacity by 2.5 times and boosted shipment volumes by 30 percent.

A Broader Push Toward Digital Manufacturing

Across Russia, a growing number of enterprises are automating manual labor and bringing advanced technologies into their production processes.

According to a survey by Strategy Partners, part of the Sber ecosystem, 50 percent of large Russian industrial companies are considering introducing generative artificial intelligence into their manufacturing operations.

Speaking at the Sber Process Mining Conf conference, Anatoly Popov, deputy chairman of Sberbank, said that 42 percent of major industrial enterprises have already deployed GenAI or plan to roll it out for production management. Another 29 percent are exploring the technology for design and research tasks.

Experts predict the emergence of ready-made industry-specific solutions and platforms, as well as rapid growth of AI assistants designed to support workers directly on the production line.
