AI System Helps Locate Nearly 3,000 Missing People in Russia’s Novosibirsk Region

Novosibirsk Region has become the first in Russia to integrate neural networks into its missing-person search infrastructure. In 2025, AI-assisted systems helped authorities locate 2,800 people listed as missing or wanted – 60% more than a year earlier.

Governor Andrey Travnikov said the results were made possible by Bezopasny gorod (Safe City), a citywide security platform equipped with biometric video analytics. The technology has become especially important in searches for missing children: once a report is filed through the 112 or 102 emergency services, it takes no more than 10 minutes for a child’s photo to appear across the system.

Travnikov said Bezopasny gorod continues to expand and improve. The network now includes more than 5,000 cameras.
