Irkutsk National Research Technical University and the United Aircraft Corporation are set to receive state subsidies totaling 864 million rubles (about $11 million) to expand automation at aircraft plants in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Ulyanovsk.

Under the project, the Far Eastern facility is expected to launch a robotic manufacturing complex by 2028 for shaping and correcting aircraft skin and frame components. A second project will be implemented at the Aviastar plant in Ulyanovsk, where a dedicated production area is planned for shaping and strengthening large aircraft panels. Specialists estimate that the new equipment will increase labor productivity at the facilities by at least threefold. A comparable increase in the service life of aircraft components is also expected.

Experts say the initiative represents the emergence of a new technological architecture for aircraft manufacturing, built around robotics, digital twins and intelligent production management systems.
