The system automatically monitors water levels and forecasts potential flooding affecting homes and other infrastructure. Its rapid response enables emergency services to take action quickly and reduce potential damage.

"Automation has increased forecast accuracy to 98.84%. In its first year of operation, the system helped prevent the consequences of 12 flooding incidents," the Chelyabinsk Region's Center for Digital Technology Development said.

The project, named Sistema signalizatsii pavodkovykh yavleniy (Flood Event Alert System), is now competing for a grant of up to 50 million rubles (about $640,000) in the nationwide Best Municipal Practice competition.
