Russian Energy Company Switches to Domestic Virtualization Platform
The move boosts reliability for critical power grid systems and marks another step in Russia’s tech independence push.

One of Russia’s major regional energy providers, Electroseti Kubani, has replaced its foreign virtualization software with VMmanager, a domestic platform developed by ISPsystem, part of the Astra Group. The transition is part of a wider national effort to reduce reliance on foreign IT systems in critical infrastructure.
A key advantage of VMmanager is its built-in fault tolerance, which keeps dispatch and monitoring systems online even under high load or hardware failure. The new setup runs on an eight-server cluster, and deployment time has been cut from several days to just a few hours thanks to automation tools built into the platform.
From scattered systems to centralized control
The shift to Russian software allowed the company to unify previously fragmented IT infrastructure, increase system reliability, and build a single service model for IT management.
The switch underscores a growing trend in Russia’s energy sector toward homegrown digital tools that improve operational resilience while insulating key industries from potential disruptions tied to foreign technologies.
