Sergey Erokhin, rector of Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics, one of the country’s leading digital universities, outlined the main AI trends shaping Russia’s large-scale IT sector in 2025.

In an interview with IT RUSSIA, Sergey Erokhin said that companies have stopped competing to build the single “most powerful LLM” and have instead shifted toward creating full-fledged ecosystems around their solutions.

Cooperation of Modes

“In practice, what wins is not a super-powerful LLM, but cooperation between different model modes. Some tasks require fast responses, others require reasoning and deliberate mode selection, which in turn saves both time and resources. AI, and LLMs in particular, has become an assistant capable of working with code, documents, analytics, and partially automating routine tasks,” Erokhin said.

He added that the trend is set to continue in 2026, with more autonomous chains, greater multimodality, and deeper integration with corporate systems. According to Erokhin, Russia is among the leaders in digital transformation, with domestic developers delivering advanced solutions in cybersecurity, quantum technologies, and unmanned systems.
