Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has opened a dedicated drone racing facility, the university’s press service said. The site includes two tracks designed for larger (200/330 class) and smaller (65/75 class) drones. It is equipped with all the necessary tools for training, including drones paired with VR headsets that allow users to see from the aircraft’s perspective.

Drone Training Hub

Drone racing was officially recognized as a sport in Russia in 2023, and the country now has a national federation that regularly organizes competitions. For students, the discipline also provides valuable hands-on skills, as drones are increasingly used across industries.

The project at Peter the Great Polytechnic University is part of a broader workforce training model under the Priority program. The university operates specialized labs for drone operator training, simulation systems, an extensive drone fleet, and dedicated testing grounds.
