Russia Developing AI-Based Power Optimization System for Industry

A machine learning–powered system aims to reduce energy costs and extend the lifespan of equipment by automating load balancing at industrial facilities.
Engineers at Russia’s Sirius Innovation Center are designing an intelligent power-saving system for use in factories and heavy industry. The new platform will automatically manage and distribute electrical loads to reduce energy losses and equipment wear, TASS reports.
The project, initiated by the petrochemical giant Sibur, uses machine learning algorithms to analyze thousands of possible equipment-to-grid connection configurations. The system can find the most efficient setup in under a second, then shift the electrical load using thyristors—devices capable of switching phases autonomously.
In the long term, the technology could be applied not just in manufacturing but also across Russia’s housing and utility sectors, potentially saving companies millions of rubles in energy costs.
