Russian Scientists Develop AI-Powered Device for Asthma Patients

A new diagnostic tool analyzes lung function, predicts flare-ups, and delivers real-time treatment suggestions—within just 60 seconds.

Russian researchers have created an innovative medical device powered by artificial intelligence to assist patients with asthma and other respiratory diseases. The system analyzes breathing patterns, detects abnormalities in lung function, and even forecasts deteriorations in condition—delivering detailed reports to both doctors and patients in under a minute, according to Izvestia.

Backed by the National Technology Initiative (NTI), the device integrates the functions of a spirometer and peak flow meter, but takes respiratory diagnostics to a new level. Rather than generating raw numbers, the system produces intuitive charts, risk scores, and even personalized treatment recommendations. Think of it as a smart glucometer—but for your lungs.

The developers have completed lab testing and secured a patent. The next phase includes clinical trials in partnership with Sechenov University and regulatory registration with Roszdravnadzor. Once approved, the device will be deployed in clinics and telemedicine platforms.
