Moscow State University Launches Faculty of Artificial Intelligence

Russia’s leading university will open a new AI faculty in 2026, equipped with a powerful supercomputer to train the next generation of specialists in machine learning and advanced algorithms.

Moscow State University (MSU) has announced the creation of a new technological cluster—the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence. Admissions for talented applicants to this forward-looking program will begin in 2026 under the supervision of rector Viktor Sadovnichy.

The curriculum will combine core and emerging disciplines, including mathematics, linguistics, biology, economics, and physics. All courses will focus on solving practical scientific problems through the application of AI, which sets the program apart from more narrowly specialized tracks.

The faculty’s central asset will be the ‘MSU-270’ supercomputer, designed to train a new generation of AI experts.

Students will master key fields of modern AI, such as machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. Graduates are expected to contribute breakthrough algorithms and innovations.

The new faculty builds on the work of MSU’s existing AI research center and institute. Competition for admission is expected to be among the highest in Russia.
