Russian Lawmakers Propose Using Esports to Combat School Bullying

A new initiative in the State Duma suggests using gaming formats and esports tournaments to create a safer, more supportive digital environment for students.

Amir Khamitov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Sports and a member of the New People party, has proposed a program called “Esports Against Bullying.” The initiative envisions using gaming formats and educational activities to show children that the digital space can be safe and welcoming.

“Esports is no longer just entertainment—it is an effective tool for developing critical thinking, teamwork, and responsibility among young people. In this context, I suggest launching the program ‘Esports Against Bullying,’ aimed at schoolchildren. Its goal is to use games and educational activities to help children understand that the digital environment can be safe, respectful, and supportive,” Khamitov said.

The lawmaker emphasized that bullying and cyberbullying remain serious challenges for teenagers.

“Through workshops, tournaments, and educational materials, we can help students build constructive communication skills, learn teamwork, and resolve conflicts without resorting to aggression,” he explained.

According to Khamitov, the initiative will help young people not only sharpen intellectual and technical skills, but also develop a culture of respect and mutual support.

“With the right organization, esports can become a platform for cultivating positive social habits that last a lifetime,” he concluded.
