Russia Designs Detailed Career Pathways for Cybersecurity Specialists

A new framework from Positive Technologies maps out career tracks in cybersecurity, offering young professionals a clear guide to roles, skills, and development opportunities in a fast-evolving industry.

Russia’s Positive Technologies training center has developed a unique system of career tracks for the cybersecurity field. The scheme details professional roles and pathways for growth across the industry. The developers call these professions and directions ‘roles,’ emphasizing that one individual can simultaneously take on multiple positions, contribute to different projects, and move between roles.

To design the framework, specialists studied several hundred job postings and conducted interviews with experts at major companies.

The tracks account for the rapid pace of technological change, including the emergence of new areas such as Web3 security analysis and machine learning engineering.

Based on this research, the team identified eight main career tracks: on-site information protection, analytics, compliance management, security research, administration of protection systems, work at security operations centers (SOC), vulnerability management, and application development.

The tracks clearly define competency requirements and list the necessary educational programs, professional resources, and communities. This helps newcomers choose a direction for their career and professional growth. The framework will be updated regularly to reflect new trends.
